When I woke up, the Italians had already left. In the morning I visited some traditional housings, first of a foot soldier (足軽), which looked simple but comfortable. Then one of a samurai, which had nice rooms, a butsudan (仏壇, a shrine inside a house), and a really amazing garden. I enjoyed to stay there for some time - especially as it rained outside.
I continued with the Kenroku-en garden. It has a lot of trees, a lake, a hill, and busy Japanese gardeners, who keep everything neat and clean. If you ever go to Kanazawa, try to go in spring, when the flowers blossom, or in Autumn, when the leaves change their color. Four pretty girls in kimonos took a walk in the park.
I walked over the bridge to the Kanazawa castle park. I saw the girls again, but I felt too shy to ask them for a picture. Instead I talked the receptionist in the recently restored gate house. The castle looks so beautiful with its white walls and white roofs. The nearby Gyokusen-inmaru Garden (I recommend to visit it!) gave me the possibility to take a short nap.
When I arrived at the fish market, most shops had already closed. Maybe it’s better that way, as I don’t like the smell of fish. I went back to the hostel, surfed a little bit on the internet, and then went to the train station to take the night bus back to Tokyo.
