2016, Japan: Day 5 - Moving to Fuji area

I had set my alarm clock to 6:45am, woke up, but then fall asleep again. When I woke up again, almost 4 hours had passed. So my schedule for the day got messed up, for example, I coludn’t get breakfast at the hostel, as it finishes at 10am. Lessons learned: always set multiple alarm clocks.

For the Fuji Hakone pass I needed to go to some special ticket counter, with a huge waiting line. So I missed the next train by 2 minutes. I bought a small cup of overpriced corn soup, and burned my tounge when I tried to eat it. By the time it had cooled down, I would have missed the next train, so I added cold water.

One hour and a half later I arrived in Odawara, and went to Odawara castle, the 7th tallest castle in Japan. On the way I got stung by an insect in the left arm. I calculated the time that it needed to get to the next hostel. I just had one hour and a half left. I went up the castle, which offers a nice view from the top. The museum inside had labels and descriptions mainly in Japanese.

I had to take three different busses. The first one letting me out in the middle of nowhere, where I had to wait half an hour in the rain. When boarding the next bus, I dropped my backpack, dropping some things on the wet ground. I got a seat number (2D) in a bus with two people. At Gotemba station I managed to find the next bus just-in-time.

The pretty Japanese girl at the hostel recommended me some restaurants and I chose the closest one, just at the other side of the street. I ate a delicious, and price-worthy spicy onion ramen. Jörg, a German guy (maybe in his 50s) told about his bicycle tour through Japan, and that he would try to climb Mount Fuji again the following day.
