2016, Japan: Day 4 - Gardens

As I planed to have lunch at a restaurant, I restricted myself to 6 toasts for breakfast. The temperature in Tokyo had reached 30 degrees Celsius, with high humidity. I didn’t think that it will get so warm in October, so I didn’t take any shorts with me. The Japanese people wore mainly trousers, it seems that they were used to these weather conditions.

I started with the Imperial Garden, which provides free entry. You still need to get a ticket, because the Imperial Family wants to limit the number of people in the park at one moment of time. The park has beautiful plants, trees, lakes, fish, buildings, … A picture says more than a thousand words.

At the Ginza station I searched for a place to eat, and found it in the basement of a department store. I had curry with rice and vegetables. I got a cup of green tea for free. This restaurant looked more noble than the others that I went to until now, but it had a reasonable price, 1500 yen (~15 euro).

Nearby I had a look at the Ginza Kabukiza Theater, where they do a traditional kind of theater, where only men play (even female roles!). The Hama-rikyu gardens offered an opportunity to relax from the stressful life in Tokyo.

On my way back to my accommodation, I found a German style restaurant, and had a beer. They offered sauerkraut, sausages, measles, chicken, … (please find the item which does not fit in this list). The waitresses wore dirndl. A group of four Japanese singers (one with a clarinet) came and performed “Aux Champs Elysées”. Enough culture shock for today.

I tried to find something vegetarian for dinner. Unfortunately Japanese people put meat almost everywhere. I picked a small restaurant. People can smoke in Japanese restaurants. At the hostel I thought that I would play a round of 2048 (I stopped after three), and went to bed at midnight.
